Walking in True Obedience
What is obedience? It is carrying out the Word and will of God.
It carries the meaning of hearing and obeying…
Exodus 19:1 ---- indeed obey MY (God’s) voice and Keep MY (God’s) covenant
When we walk in obedience to God and His ways - we submit to God, do what He says and He will keep us whole! Spiritually, physically, mentally and materially!
So many time people think being a successful Christian takes no action on their part.
They become saved, confess Jesus as savior, get baptized (maybe), read a few verses in their Bible each day, come to church once a week, pray 5 minutes a day and wonder why they don’t succeed as a Christian!
Believe me! I know it doesn’t work that way!!!
God gave Himself for us- to redeem us - He expects and deserves so much more!
God wants us consecrated to Him! The question I ask is "are you willing’?
We are separated unto God just as the Children of Israel were chosen and separated in the wilderness!
We are a chosen generation - for this time, this hour!
God wants a people right now who want to be victorious and who are willing to do whatever it takes to gain that victory!
Something about a victorious Christian causes the law of multiplication to work.
People see what you have and they want it.
God wants a people who are willing to
1. Separate themselves from the world’s ways.
2. Commit them to obey Him1
2Cor 6:17 - come out separate you, do not live in the natural world.
We are to do it! We make the choice! We do out part.
What is our part?
1. Become born again.
2. Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
3. Walk in love.
4. Give your tithes and offerings.
5. Stay in God’s Word - meditate on the things of God.
6. Learn to hear God speaking to you.
Your goal to a victorious Christian live is to live, think, act, and talk the way God wants you to.
Everything God asks you to do is do-able!
But you won’t hear God direct you if you are living a cluttered, critical and carnal life!
Satan’s worst nightmare is a victorious Christian!
Deuteronomy 8:1-3 we are to live by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God, not just our favorites!
Deuteronomy 11:18-21
Joshua 1:8
Romans 12:2
We are to keep God’s Word before us, meditate on it and renew our minds with it everyday.
One of the most important ways to gain and keep victory is to walk in love.
Why? Because God loved us…
Love is not only one of God’s attributes; it is also as essential part of His nature.
Love is the glue that holds everything together.
It is the leaven that starts the Christian growth to victory.
It is the oil of the wheel of obedience.
We are talking about the agape love of God. God’s love!
When you were born again, the Zoë live of God came into you, that is all the life God has, it is his nature and character. It is the life and love that now dwells in you!
John 17:26:
(Jesus’ prayer for the disciples.) It is the nature of the love of God for Jesus. This is the love that is in you.
Agape love is the love we as believers have for each other!
It is the evidence of our salvation!
John 13:34-35:
It is the new commandment Jesus gave us that fulfill all the other commandments.
It is not "Jesus in me love you"!
1John 4:7-11:
We love one another because God loved us.
Love is of God and from God.
If you love your brothers/sisters in Christ you are God’s child - it is the evidence of your salvation…
When you walk in love you are acting like the Child of God that you are!
You are growing progressively in understanding of God, when you walk in love - why?
Because God is love!
God’ s love was manifested in Jesus. We are to love each other as God loves us!
Galatians 5:22-26:
Love is the fruit of your recreated spirit, by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in you.
Moffat’s translation says, "the work of the harvest which His presence in you accomplishes"
It is not the fruit of the Holy Spirit, but the fruit of your recreated spirit wrought by the Holy Spirit dwelling in you.
It is a seed planted with the new birth and it has to be fed to grow and develop…
We don’t automatically manifest love because we are born again.
It is an action we take!
It is not an action of the Holy Spirit.
Let’s look at the characteristics of agape love:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love: endures, is patient and kind, is not envious, boastful etc.
It is not self-seeking!
It pays no attention to a suffered wrong.
It does not rejoice at wrong, or bad things, but rejoices at good.
It never fails!
The Amplified Bible describes love as true affection for God and man, growing out of
God’s love for and in us.
Love bears up under anything- no matter what!
God puts up with us and bears us; therefore we can and should put up with anything and anyone!
God never asks or tells us to do something He doesn’t do!
Love does not bear grudges!
A grudge is getting offended about something and never forgetting it or letting it go.
Holding a grudge will hinder your walk with God both spiritually and physically.
It will hold up the answers to prayers.
When you get offended, angry, hurt feelings, defensive, critical- you are opening the door for Satan to come against you anyway he can! And He will!
Don’t criticize the servants of God, from the top of the chain like Benny Hinn, John Hagee,
Billy Graham etc, to the local pastors, teachers or elders.
Ephesians 4:2-3:
The body of Christ is to walk in unity.
Love is a peacemaker! It doesn’t criticize, analyze or demonize people.
1 Corinthians 14:1:
We are to pursue love.
The Amplified Bible says, "Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire love.
We are to go after and develop the love of God in us.
You walk, talk and act love, and it will become a reality in your life.
How do you pursue love?
1. Psalms 17:3 Keep you mouth under control. You do it.
2. John 15:1-8: abide in the vine, stay in God’s Word, meditate in it, memorize it, practice it. If you don’t feed your spirit God’s Word, you cannot harvest the fruit of your recreated spirit, which is love!
3. Galatians 5:13-16: don’t "eat each other up", love one another, and walk in the spirit. Don’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.
4. Romans 12:1: present your body a living sacrifice: You crucify the flesh.
5. Romans 13:14: you put on the Lord Jesus.
6. Joshua 8:3, Romans 12:2: Spend time with God. Your flesh is not a good guide for walking in love. It will always lead you wrong. Learn what the Word says and do it!
Remember:
Galatians 5:6: faith works by love. It is the action that motivates faith!
Finally, love forgives!
Mark 11:23-26:
If you are walking in unforgiveness in any area, it will hinder you prayers.
Matthew 6:43: 7:12:
God forgives us as we forgive others.
Matthew 7:1-7:
Judge not and we will not be judged.
